Contemporary teachers have the opportunity to engage their students in various cooperation projects with the local community. He can also initiate various activities, paying attention to the needs of the community around the school. Sometimes you only (until?) Well in my opinion it illustrates the diploma seminar. His years already have gray hair too (well, and that they are still growing), but I still have to learn. Because the world is constantly changing. And, unfortunately, very quickly. Not only need to change phones every year. But how to live alone in a cozy stabilization, when the students have to prepare for continuous learning in the changing world? I get to know firsthand what it tastes like. And I share their experience (not only in the classroom or laboratory). Today, I write about the seminar and this is in part a replay material for students. But at the same time slowly I am preparing to lead a webinar (a word you have to create a completely new, matching this changing reality). I am struggling with the technique but also with the concept. You need to understand how the communication in these new conditions. First, there will be some admission procedure (also for students, where it all took). I am writing to yourself and organize your thoughts. In the next part will be to clarify what you can see in the figure below (graphics?). During the seminar I try to teach students writing a thesis. In principle, however, it plays the role of a midwife – helping born. And more specifically, I try to create a learning environment that the “birth” will be accompanied and facilitated them. Sam wrote a thesis as a student and attended a seminary graduate (when there were only uniform magister). Then I was supervisor of master’s in biology and ecology of caddisflies (Insecta: Trichoptera). It is not enough to refer to the past, as once I was taught. Because too much it has changed over the past 30 years. Then they were graduate degree in biology. Then I was supervisor of the postgraduate diploma for teachers (a different theme and a different nature of the work), conducted a seminar on the nursing (my department opened nursing studies to facilitate the emergence of the medical faculty), biotechnology now, at the time of biology. Well, there were studies in the Bologna system or a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree (first and second degree) In the meantime, I was also a promoter of doctoral dissertations. As a reviewer many theses browsed and analyzed. All in all, a lot of experience. Its both sides (this and the other side of the desk in the hall) and unbalanced (more often in the role of promoter and lecturer) has long supplemented adequate reading literature. So I used the experience of others in the field of writing theses and diploma seminar sense. I read authors from different disciplines (not just biologists) and often richer from my experience. In a constantly and rapidly changing world was not enough time (and good) and ask to think about the goal and meaning of the thesis and the seminar. I still need to adapt the method to the parent. A and the latter undoubtedly changing. And it is worth it to see. In the beginning was the seminar’s degree in biology, in small groups. Students wrote thematically similar work in the field of biology and ecology of aquatic invertebrates (caddis flies, bugs, beetles, dragonflies, mayflies, water mites). Often they are working on the same object (lake, river). The seminar was planned for two years. In the discussion and teamwork we have developed a program and schedule for two years, with the planning of research (about concrete was born to a much greater student and promoter of dialogue, compared to the current situation), often common outputs terrain. So it was at the seminar and planning fieldwork, discussing methods of fishing invertebrates, and was discussing methods of analysis, including statistics. It was to discuss the results. I even wrote two electronic scripts, hydrobiologic on research methodology and the writing process. Now I have to significantly change to adapt to current needs and current situation. But a lot has changed. Purpose of the same kind, but other conditions. Otherwise it looks diploma exam – now a student must present their work in the form of a multimedia presentation. And so it must be able to something new, compared to the old “good times”. Once we wrote by hand and tipped to rewrite machine typist. Now most students he writes on the computer itself consists of text (taught editing). It is thus the author and publisher at the same time. It is more skill than ever. But other technological capabilities. What else has changed? Seminar is a two-semester Bachelor’s degree and a longer seminar. It changed for me even more. I currently have classes in most of biotechnologami (previously also with nurses), much less with biologists. And the latter, and so distant from work writing my scientific specialty. So I do not teach this, what I know the most. Old patterns discussing research methodology have lost their meaning. I have myself not only to learn new things factually, but to rethink the meaning of the seminar. Because in the span of a group of theses topics is considerable. These are not graduates from one of the cathedral … I am a zoologist and lead a seminar for biotechnologists and also biotechnology engineering (now a much greater extent than we realize the program show their own experience and their own research findings). I had to include two new types of work: Design and Application (previously, along with a bachelor appeared for reviews).
